Protestas en Venezuela

Posted by Orwell at May 5, 2017, 6:56 am in general , tags: Venezuela Protest

Venezuela has been riven by violent protests in recent weeks as opposition leaders face off with President Nicolas Maduro and his supporters.

Anti-government protesters want Maduro to step down, accusing him eroding democracy. Maduro, meanwhile, has ordered the Venezuelan armed forces onto the streets to maintain order.
The political turmoil comes against the backdrop of a worsening economic crisis. Silicon Valley leaders are working on a 'tech pledge' they want companies to get behind

Tech leaders are creating a "pledge" to support shared social, economic, and political values that they hope all of Silicon Valley can get behind.

In a series of tweets posted May 2, Sam Altman, a top investor and president of startup accelerator Y Combinator, revealed the first draft of "The Tech Pledge." It asks tech companies to commit to keeping user data private and supporting legal immigration.

More tenets will be added to the pledge in the future. Altman and his fellow organizers — including Debra Cleaver, the founder and CEO of, and Matt Krisiloff, director at Y Combinator Research — are seeking feedback through May 16.

Business Insider first reported on the initiative in April, when Altman spoke at San Francisco's Commonwealth Club. He said he had spoken to hundreds of tech leaders and investors about creating a set of core values for the industry, and had been coordinating the effort over email, Google Docs, and a handful of meetings in Altman's home.... read more

1903-1945: Korea Under Japanese Rule

Only fragments remain of Korea's early film history. The vast majority of Korea's early film footage was lost due to neglect or the destruction brought about by the Korean War, and not a single feature produced before 1934 survives in complete form today. Nonetheless, historical records paint a picture of a lively and creative industry that produced over 160 features from the early twenties until Japan's surrender to Allied forces in 1945.

From 1909 to 1920, a series of theaters were built in Seoul and in regional cities such as Pusan and Pyongyang. Most of these theaters were owned by Japanese businessmen, but a few Korean theater owners built up a significant amount of capital screening European and American imports. This capital would eventually be used to help finance the first domestic productions. Korea's first "film" (The Righteous Revenge), a kinodrama in which actors performed against the backdrop of a projected feature, debuted at Seoul's Danseongsa Theater in 1919. The public reportedly loved the show, but the long-term prospects of this and other kinodramas were hampered by intellectuals who criticized the mixed-media format as an insult to both theatre and film.... read more
